Intrastat FAQ’s

Q. What is Intrastat?
A. Intrastat is the name given to the system for collecting statistics on the trade in goods between the countries of the European Union (EU). It has been operating since 1 st January 1993, and replaces customs declarations as the source of collecting trade statistics within the EU.

Q. Who has to complete Intrastat returns?
A. All VAT registered traders who import or export goods to another member state in excess of £270,000.00 in a calendar year.

This is the threshold for 2008 but it is liable to change each year.

Q. Can ChannelPorts complete the Intrastat returns on our behalf?
A. Yes we can complete your returns on your behalf. All we need to be able to complete the declarations on your behalf is a copy of the invoice, making sure it contains the description of goods, values, terms of sale, and weights.

We will also need to know your VAT number and your suppliers / customers VAT number.
