The ‘Check an HGV is ready to cross the border service’ formally known as ‘Smart Freight’ will provide advice on documentation that HGVs over 7.5 tonnes will need when exporting freight from GB to the EU after December 31st 2020. The service will also generate a Kent Access Permit for those who confirm either that they have – or will obtain en-route – the necessary customs documentation.
The following demo is to let freight industry users see how the service will look, what questions it will ask, and what information it will provide. Please note that permits generated from the preview site will not be valid for use when travelling to the Port of Dover or Eurotunnel. While the demo closely resembles the service that will roll out on gov.uk, the questions for determining an HGV’s border readiness are not extensive and are meant only to support an assessment of readiness for EU import controls.
While the content introduces what will be in the actual service, any performance issues encountered with the features in this demo version are not representative of the quality of experience that will be delivered when the service is live. It is not a full production system, so does not have the robust validation (e.g., dates, formats) that the live service will have, it is simply a demonstration system to provide some user experience before the system goes live.
Please access the demonstration system via the following link: https://check-an-hgv-is-ready-to-cross-the-border-demo.fbplatform.co.uk/start
It is important to note that from the end of the Transition Period the responsibility of completing this service lies with the haulier.
